Their debut album, Own Unknown, is an honest and unabashed effort that captures a sense of unknowing that many have experienced during the global pandemic. It was created from concept to completion during the initial months of the shutdown. Every track was written, composed, and recorded in the early hours of the morning on a Cassette-8 track in their attic as not to disturb their sleeping family – self-produced and engineered.

Own Unknown tackles issues of social justice, cultural wealth, and technology, which is heard in their bouncy single, Number – riffing on how educators are tethered to Zoom during the pandemic to support students and their families.

The exquisite cover art to this album is provided by Syrian-American artist, Diana Al-Hadid who has created work for galleries and museums all over the globe. As a self-released album, this pair of musicians largely crowd-sourced the pressing with support from friends.

The Overcasts were formed out of the rainy haze of Olympia by schoolteachers, Jen Grady and Eric Sarai. They have created a sound that blends the music stylings of Broadcast, Cat Le Bon, Landing, Mazzy Star, and WIRE.
